From Monday 1st October for approximately 2 weeks the main road through the centre of Alston (Front Street) is closed to vehicles whilst new gas pipes are being laid. This affects getting from the bottom of Alston to the A689 to Nenthead/Stanhope or the B6277 to Garrigill/Middleton In Teesdale.
There is a diversion following the A686 to Hexham and then taking the road through Blagill and then back onto the A689 to Nenthead. Or taking the Leadgate road to Garrigill off the A686 from Hartside to get onto the B6277.
Both diversions are along small country lanes so careful considerate driving is essential.
Access through the works is open to pedestrians and dismounted cyclists so people doing the C2C should not be affected.
